TLA Membership

More About the TLA
Benefits of the TLA
Individuals can engage with the TLA in 2 ways:
  • Undertaking a Recognition project - leading to Associate Membership (AMTLA)
  • Enrolling on a TLA Accredited module - leading to
full membership of the TLA (MTLA)
The TLA is open to both schools/colleges and individuals. There is no fee to join.

Whether joining through your school/college or as an individual, all members will be able to gain access to a range of resources and support for their professional development. The categories of membership have been devised to enable individuals and schools/colleges to join the TLA at the most appropriate membership level for their particular needs and aspirations. For example:

  • A teacher in a small rural primary school may want to become an Affiliate initially, to gain access to a range of online resources, to support their professional development
  • A bursar in a large secondary school may want to engage in a new initiative and choose to undertake a recognition project to gain TLA recognition for the work undertaken and to become an Associate Member of the TLA
  • A teaching assistant who has successfully undertaken a Foundation degree, and is interested in pursuing a particular project, would join and work towards gaining 60 level 6 (Honours degree) credits and become a full Member on successful completion
  • A teacher may be keen to investigate a whole school initiative and on the successful completion of an assessed project gain 30 level 7 (Masters degree) credits, which could be used towards a Masters degree
